Puducherry, Feb 13 : The Federation for People’s Rights here today urged the territorial administration to take immediate steps to arrest all involved in the case of throwing acid on the Karaikal girl Vinothini who succumbed to her burns yesterday.
Federation Secretary G Sugumaran in a statement here today condoled the death of Vinothni and wondered why the Karaikal police failed to book those who supplied acid to the accused Suresh despite insistence from the girl’s family. He urged the administration to take proper steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the union territory and to create awareness among women, particularly school and college girls.
Urging Chief Minister N Rangasamy to provide more as solatium to the family, Mr Sugumaran also wanted to set up a fast track court here to expedite th case and maximum punishment to the culprit. Meanwhile, the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee today paid floral tributes to a decorated portrait of Vinothini at the Venkatasubbareddiyar statue junction here.
Led by Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister V Vaithilingam, party functionaries participated and paid floral tributes to the departed soul.Later, talking to newspersons, Mr Vaithilignam said the administration should set up a fast-track court in the union territory to deal with such cases.
He also wanted more stringent section be introduced for crimes against women in the union territory. The students of the Bharathidasan Government Women’s College here today paid tributes to a decorated portrait of Vinothini inside the college campus.
Parents, teachers and students association members also participated in the function. Meanwhile, the students of the Motilal Nehru Politechnic here today observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul. SFI organised the programme.
