News: Plea to release Lankan refugees from TN camps

The Federation for People’s Rights here today urged the Tamil NaduGovernment to take steps to release all the inmates of the Sri Lankan Refugee Camps in Tamil Nadu. Welcoming the release of seven Tamil refugees from Chengalpattu Refugee Camp, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran, in a statement today, said there were 112 camps for the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in Tamil Nadu besides the two special camps meant for criminals who are on bail. He said Senthooran of Poonamalle Camp was on an indefinite fast demanding the refugees be shifted to an open camp following which there was demand for release of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees.

Hence, the governemnt should take steps to release all the Sri Lankan Tamils in the refugee camps,he said adding a memoranda in this regard would be sent to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Home Secretary and DGP.
