The Federation for People’s Rights here today urged the administration to order for a judicial probe into the deteriorating law and order situation in the union territory. In a statement here today, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran said of late law and order had deteriorated in Puducherry and the continuance of the same officers at the same place for several years together had slackened the functioning of the police department. He said Inspector General of Police Sharma should be made responsible for the present law and order situation. Mr Sharma, who was not at all staying in Puducherry to attended work, be transferred and some other ‘efficient’ officer be posted as IGP, he demanded. He also demanded an all party meeting forthwith to discuss the law and order issue.
