News: MCI declines permission for Puducherry Govt Medical College college to admit students

Puducherry, May 5 (PTI) The MCI has decided not to renew permission for the Puducherry government-run Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute here for admission of second batch of students for 2011-2012 in view of “inadequate” infrastructure and teaching facility among others.

A copy of the letter sent by the Medical Council of India to the college principal on April 11 was distributed to reporters today by Federation of People’s Rights, Puducherry, an NGO.

The MCI stated that its assessors had carried out on February 18 and 19 an assessment of the physical and teaching facilities available in the college for admission of second batch of students for MBBS course for 2011-2012 academic year.

The assessors” report was “considered by the Board of Governors and it was decided not to renew the permission for second batch in the MBBS course”.

The Board had asked the college to send in a reply or compliance within two weeks
