News: Urge to suspend police personnel involved in ‘murder’

Puducherry, May 2 : Political parties and organisations today urged the Puducherry Administration to immediately suspend the police personnel involved in the alleged murder at the Mettuppalayam Police Station.

Leaders of the political parties today met Inspector General of Police (incharge) Shukla and Senior Superintendent of Police Atul Katayar and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

They demanded that adequate protection be given to the witnesses in the alleged murder as they were being threatened by the police personnel involved in the crime and a compensation of Rs ten lakh be provided to the family of the deceased.

A youth, Damodaran, who was taken to the Mettuppalayam Police Station for interrogation in connection Jayshankar murder case, was allegedly beaten to death inside the police station, Secretary of the Federation for People’s Rights G Sugumaran, who led the delegation, said in a statement here today.

The delegation urged the top police officials to initiate action against Superintendent of Police (south) Nandagopal who allegedly foisted six cases against Karikkalampakkam Panachayat Union President Jaganathan.
