The Federation for People’s Rights here today sought Centre ‘s intervention to ensure safe release of Kayalvizhi, the granddaughter of Tamil scholar Perunchithiranar and her assistant Thirumalai, who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Army.
In a statement here, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran strongly condemned the incident and said Kayalvizhi and her assistant had gone to Sri Lanka to study the status of Sri Lankan Tamils after elimination of the LTTE, by getting proper Visas. However, both of them were arrested by the Sri Lankan Army at Omandai and were taken to an undisclosed destination.
He urged the Centre to initiate talks with the Sri Lankan Government to ensure the release of the two.
He said telegrams were sent to the Prime Minister and External Affairs Minister in this regard.
