Puducherry, Dec 11 : The Federation for People’s Rights demanded the resignation of Puducherry Revenue Minister Malladi Krishna Rao in the wake of a local court admitting a petition against him today.
In a statement here, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran said a case pertaining to the diversion of government funds to two NGOs run by him in his capacity as a minister was admitted in the court.
Suspicions gained ground that Mr Rao continues to be the minister, the trial may not be free and fair, he added.
Recalling ministers emerging out freely from the cases against them in the recent past, Mr Sugumaran said Mr Rao should quit to ensure a free and fair trial. Chief Minister V Vaithilingam, was trying to hush up the issue, he alleged.
He said under such circumstances, Mr Rao should prove his innocence by tendering his resignation from the Ministry. If the minister fails to resign, Mr Vaithilingam should remove him, Sugumaran added.
Mr Sugumaran said the Federation would send memorandum to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) President and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on the issue.
