The Federation for People’s Rights here today urged the administration to initiate suitable action against the private medical college management where a MBBS girl student allegedly committed suicide in November last year for their ‘carelessness’. In a statement here today, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran said the girl, Lakshmi Anasuya hailing from Andhra Pradesh, committed suicide by hanging in her hostel room on November 14 last year and it came to light only on November 17 when her body was found. It was duty of the college management to supervise the hostels and ensure safety of the students. But the college management failed in this regard. Hence, proper action be initiated against the college management. Mr Sugumaran also ridiculed the investigating officer seeking suggestion of the law department tom initiate action against the college management and wonder under which law the same is done by an officer who got full powers to initiate action against the management. The Puducherry law department had reportedly asked the officer not to initiate any action against the college management, he said. It may be noted that the girl was in love with a PG student Prasanth also from Andhra Pradesh and she committed suicide when he made his mind to marry another girl ignoring her pleas. Police arrested Prasanth yesterday and remanded him to 15 days judicial custody.
