Puducherry, Sep 17 (UNI) The Federation for People’s Rights here today demanded a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the recruitment of nurses to the JIPMER Hospital here.
In a statement here, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran claimed that as many as 19,996 candidates had appeared for the entrance examination at Puducherry, Chennai, Tiruchirappally and Thiruvananthapuram to fill up 463 posts. For these vacant posts only 140 candidates were selected from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, while 323 were selected from the Thiruvananthapuram centre. This created suspicion of corruption and irregularities in the recruitment. A few years back 80 candidates from Kerala were selected to fill a total of 90 posts, he said.
Demanding an enquiry into the ‘irregularity’, Mr Sugumaran said 50 per cent of the posts should be allotted to the locals as was in practice in the Central government institutions in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Letters in this regard would be sent to officials of the Union Home Ministry and Health Ministry, he said.
