News: CM urged to help acid throw victim

Puducherry, Dec 10 : The Federation for People’s Rights here today urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to come forward to bear the expenses of the treatment of Vinothini, hailing from karaikal who lost sight in both her eyes following an acid throw.

In a statement here today, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran said when Vinothini, a software engineer with a private firm in Chennai, refused the proposal from a youth, he became furious and threw acid at her in Karaikal bus stand on November 14 in which Vinothini was seriously injured and her father and another person also sustained acid burns.

Vinothini was being treated in a hospital in Chennai and she need super specialty treatment and could not afford it as she was from a poor family. Hence, the Chief Minister should come forward to bear the medical expenses and provide adequate compensation to her family since it was a lapse on the part of the police.
