Stating that lack of efficiency among the police personnel was the cause for the present law and order situation in the union territory, the Federation for Peoples Rights here today urged the territorial administration to constitute an enquiry commission headed by aretired high court judge and a CBI official to go into the issue.
In astatement here, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran said the incidents after the murder of notorious rowdy Jagan caused panic among the public who feared insecurity here. Jagan could have been saved if the police took proper steps, he added. He alleged that the police department right from the top to the bottom had plunged into corruption and the straight forward officials were not being given any responsibility resulting in the nexus between the police and the rowdies.
Mr Sugumaran demanded that stringent action be taken against the jail authorities if it was proved that the murder plots were being hatched in jails and also against the culprits. Murder of Jagan should be considered as an alertbell for, he added. Mr Sugumaran cited the constitution of an enquiry commission headed by retired Karnataka High Court Judge Sadasiva and former CBI Director Narasimhan to go into the acts of the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu special task force to nab Veerappan and demanded that an enquiry commission on the same line be constituted in this issue.
