News: Convene meeting to discuss Muslims quota issue: Federation

The Federation for People’s Rights today urged the territorial administration to convene a meeting of all political parties and social organisations to discuss the Muslims reservation issue and take a decision on it.

While welcoming the Government’s move to provide 2.5 per cent reservation to Muslims, Federation secretary G Sugumaran, in a statement here, demanded that it should be within the framework of law and social justice.

By creating certain irregularities in the announcement of reservation to Muslims, the Government had created an atmosphere that it could not be implemented, thereby ‘cheating ‘the community which need to be strongly condemned, he said.

Mr Sugumaran pointed out that the Andhra Pradesh Government had given 4 per cent reservation for Muslims and the Tamil Nadu Government 3.5 per cent to them in a proper way. But the Puducherry Government without considering the modality of implementation in the states, has hastily announced 2.5 per cent reservation disappointing not only the Muslims, but also the Most Backward Class people here, he said.
