Puducherry, UNI, Various political parties and organisations today urged the Puducherry Administration to order a judicial enquiry into the alleged lathi charge against women at Thengaithittu by a police Inspector.
In a release here, Federation for People’s Rights Secretary G Sugumaran said a resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting of various political parties and organisation in which the BSP, Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Republican Party of India, Tamizhar Desiya Iyyakkam among others participated.
In another resolution, they urged the Administration to register a criminal case against the official as per the Madras High Court directions, and to suspend him till the case was settled.
They also urged the Administration to initiate action against Superintendent of Police (South) who allegedly failed to take action against the Inspector. Police lathicharged the women when they were participating in an agitation against the Port Development Project.
