The Puducherry-based Federation for People’s Rights today urged the Centre to terminate the ”illegal” concession agreement of the Puducherry Port project and reclaim the 153 acres of government land handed over to the private port firm.
In a memorandum submitted to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram here, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran urged him not to give sanction for the further extension and take steps to cancel the concession agreement of the Karaikal Port project and reclaim the 597 acres of government land handed over to the port developer.
He also urged the minister to take steps to reclaim the land acquired for the Special Economic Zone since the Ministry of Home Affairs had ordered the Puducherry Government to reclaim the land provided to a private developer and also to issue orders providing 2.5 per cent reservation for backward Muslims and one per cent reservation for the backward tribes.
