News: 92 arrested for burning copies of Act

Puducherry : Ninety two volunteers of the ”Singaravelar Munnetra Kazhagam,” including two women were arrested when they attempted to burn the xerox copies of the proposed Marine Fisheries (Regulation and Management) Act 2009 here today.

The volunteers, led by the organisation’s Tamil Nadu president Anandan, Puducherry President Chandran and Federation for people’s rights Secretary G Sugumaran, assembled before the Singaravelar statue and shouted slogans against the proposed Act.

They later attempted to burn the copies, when police arrested them.
