News: Initiate suo motu proceedings against minister: Federation

Puducherry: The Federation for Peolpe’s Rights has appealed to the Chief Justice of India to initiate suo motu proceedings against the Union Minister, who was pulled up by Justice R Reghupathy for attempting to influence him. Federation secretary G Sugumaran in representation also pleaded with the chief justice to instruct the centre to initiate stringent action against the minister.

He charged that the officials of Pondicherry University and a few influential persons in Puducherry were also involved in mark sheet scam and appealed to the chief justice to hand over the murder case of a Pondicherry University employee presently probed by the Puducherry police to the CBI.

Sugumaran said Jayaraman, a data entry operator in Pondicherry University, who brought to light the mark sheet scam, was murdered by unidentified gang on May 20. Puducherry police booked a case and did not make any major break through in the past one year, he charged.

He pointed out that Durairaj, brother of the deceased person, had filed a petition before the high court seeking a direction to entrust the case to the CBI. The human rights activist said Jayaraman while undergoing treatment after attempting suicide a couple of months before his murder told doctors and police that he resorted to end his life as Pondicherry University officials forced him to admit the crime which he never committed. “His statement still stands as a dying declaration disclosing the culprits,” Sugumaran said.
