News: Federation plea for CBI probe into murder

Puducherry, Jun 12 : The Federation for People’s Rights here today urged the administration to order a CBI probe into the murder of Mechanic Sunder in connection with a bid to grab house property worth Rupees ten crore, last week.

In a statement, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran said the menace of grabbing house property and plots started in the Union Territory in 1998 and declined due to the steps taken by the administration.

However, it started again and the gangs had gone to the extent of killing for gain for which the police had to be blamed, he added.

Mr Sugumaran claimed the police were trying to shield the culprits behind the murder by taking some innocent people into custody.

”It is shocking to hear that some prominant political personalities and police officers are behind the murder and hence, a CBI probe should be ordered,” he demanded.

The Federation, on its part, would collect evidence and forward it to the CBI and the Union Home Ministry, he said.
