The Federation for People’s Rights, a Puducherry-based organisation, has accused the inquiry panel formed to probe the alleged detention and assault of Pondicherry University student Radhakrishnan by two professors and two security personnel, of bias.
The federation secretary G Sugumaran said the inquiry was initiated without prior notice and no sufficient time was given to the students to depose before the panel. He alleged that the three-member panel was trying to hasten the probe with a view to hushing up the issue and to safeguard the people involved. Some of the students were warned of dire consequences if they deposed before the panel, he claimed.
One of the members of the panel had not been permitted by the UT administration to be part of the probe, he said.
Stating that the inquiry has been reduced to a farce as it would not render justice to the victim, Sugumaran sought an inquiry commission headed by a retired High Court judge to look into the matter.
