The Federation for People’s Rights here today urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to take immediate steps to set up a separate department for Backward Class and Minorities as announced in the Lt Governor’s address to the territorial assembly on August 18, 2011.
In a letter to the Chief Minister here, Federation Secretary G Sugumaran pointed out that since 1954 a separate department with a minister, secretary etc was functioning in Tamil Nadu and separate fund was being allocated every year in the budget.
However, in Puducherry no steps were taken even though it was announced in 2011. Hence, the scheme should be announced in this budget session and steps taken to ensure welfare of the majority backward class and minorities living here, he said.
