News: CBI probe sought into Puducherry girl’s rape

The Federation for People’s Rights on Monday demanded a CBI probe into the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl by a school correspondent here

Puducherry: G Sugumaran, Secretary of The Federation for People’s Rights in a statement here on Monday said a class nine student of KSP school at Kadirgamam was allegedly sexually assaulted by its Correspondent Ramesh.

Even though, the D Nagar police had registered a case against Ramesh, he is yet to be arrested.

Sugumaran said, based on a complaint from the girl, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) conducted an enquiry and recommended the police to register a case.

However, the south Superintendent of Police instead of registering a case had a discussion with the girl’s family to withdraw the case.

Following intervention by the left parties and social organisations, a case has been registered against Ramesh.

He said the accused Ramesh is a ruling N R Congress functionary and former Chairperson of a government corporation.

The police is trying to save Ramesh from the case and the victim is most unlikely to get justice if the Puducherry police investigates the case, he alleged.

Therefore, the Puducherry administration should hand over the case to the CBI, arrest Ramesh, put him behind bars and provide adequate compensation to the family of the affected girl, he said.

Sugumaran said if the Puducherry administration fails in this regard, the federation will mobilise the support of all social organisations and organise a massive agitation.

A detailed memorandum on the issue is being forwarded to the Union Home Ministry, Home Secretary and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), he further added in his statement.
