News: Plea for inquiry panel in Pondy

Puducherry, Apr 28 : The Federation for People’s Rights here today urged for the constitution of an inquiry commission headed by a retired high court judge to go into the alleged abduction and assault of a PG student of the Pondicherry University by a professor and security guards here on April 6.

Federation Secretary G Sugumaran, in a statement here today, said the present inquiry commission constituted by the university is acting in such a way to save the culprits and the student will in no way get justice in this enquiry.

Mr Sugumaran said that the Tamil PG student Radhakrishnan was abducted and assaulted by Prof Hariharan and three security personnel and compelled him to admit that he had intruded into the girls hostel during odd hours.

Following agitations by the students, the university management had constituted a three-member enquiry commission headed by a retired IPS officer of Bengaluru.
