News: Federation demands action against Cong activists

Puducherry, Apr 8 : The Federation for People’s Rights here today urged the Election Department to take proper action against the Congress functionaries, who reportedly tried to stall the election campaign of Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam at Kanuvaipet near Villianur.

Federation Secretary G Sugumaran in a statement here today said the Kazhagam volunteers were engaged in election campaign at Kanuvaipet after getting permission from the election department in support of the ruling N R Congress candidate Radhakrishnan.

They played songs criticising All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress functionaries who came there at that time could not tolerate the criticism and created trouble.

In case of any objection, the Congress functionaries should have made a complaint to the Election Department or Election Commission (EC) instead of making efforts to stall the election campaign.

The EC should conduct an inquiry into the incident and initiate criminal action against the Congress functionaries, he demanded.

He said criticising each other during electioneering was quite common and the Congress functionaries should learn to bear the same. Creating trouble at an election campaign was mockery of democracy, he added.
