Puducherry, Jun 7 : Different political parties and organisations today urged the state election commission here to convene an all-party meeting in connection with the holding of local body elections in the union territory.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting of the parties and organisations here today. Taking strong exception to the failure of the Puducherry administration to hold the civic polls here even after directions from the Madras High Court and Supreme Court, the party urged the administration to take necessary actions in this regard.
Resolutions urging the delimitation committee to complete the process of delimitation of wards forthwith to hold elections and to support all agitations organsied by the former elected representatives of the civic bodies to press for the holding of elections were adopted in the meeting. Parties such as MDMK, VCK, CPI(ML), Tamizhaar Desiya Iyyakkam, Forward Block, RJD, and Federation for People’s Rights among others attended the meeting, according to a release from the Federation for People’s Rights here today.
